Lesco is a traditional vegetable stew that is a staple in Hungarian cuisine. It is a versatile and hearty dish, known for its rich flavors and vibrant colors. The Bende family first opened a shop in Budapest in 1935. After immigrating to America in 1956, the family has continued making Hungarian classics ever since Lesco is made from Hungarian peppers, tomatoes, and onions and seasoned with paprika and garlic. It can be enjoyed on its own with bread, as a side dish accompanying meats like sausage or pork, or as a base for other dishes like stews and casseroles.
